Google Business Profile posts that get calls in Cape Town
How Cape Town SMEs write weekly Google Business Profile posts that bring phone and WhatsApp enquiries: what to post, how to write it, photos and a simple rhythm.

A lot of Cape Town businesses set up a Google Business Profile, fill in the basics and leave it. Photos go stale. The Call and WhatsApp buttons stay quiet.
Weekly Google Business Profile posts are one of the easiest fixes. They show on your listing in Search and Maps, take a few minutes, and when you write them for the person about to phone, they bring enquiries. Here's how we do it at The Lekker Lab.
Why posts bring phone and WhatsApp enquiries
People searching "geyser repair Durbanville" or "hair salon Sea Point" are often ready to book. They open your profile, glance at the photos, maybe skim a review, and look for a reason to tap Call or Message.
A fresh post gives them that reason: a recent job in their suburb, a same-week slot, a special ending Friday. It shows you're trading today. Google also tends to favour active profiles, so posts help you look alive next to quieter competitors.
Posts won't fix a half-done profile on their own. Categories, hours, photos and reviews still matter. But with those in place, weekly posts turn "I saw you on Maps" into "Can you come tomorrow?"
What to post each week (ideas that get taps)
Skip vague brand fluff. Write about something a customer can act on:
- A finished job: "Replaced a geyser in Brackenfell this morning. Same-day slots still open this week."
- A service people search for: "Looking for a bookkeeper in Claremont? We take on small businesses from Woodstock to Constantia."
- An offer with an end date: "10% off first deep clean booked before Friday. WhatsApp us to lock a time."
- Hours or availability: "Open Saturday 8am to 1pm in Observatory. Walk-ins welcome."
- A question you get a lot: "Do we do insurance claims for hail damage? Yes. Here's how it works."
Rotate these. Keep it honest. Google doesn't like fake urgency, and neither do customers.
How to write a post people actually tap
Keep it short. Most people read on a phone while deciding who to call. Aim for three or four lines:
- What you're offering or showing
- Where (suburb or area), so local searchers feel it's relevant
- What to do next: Call, WhatsApp or "Book this week"
Name the suburb when it's true. "Plumber in Cape Town" is weak. "Blocked drain sorted in Pinelands this afternoon" is specific and believable.
Put the ask in the last line. "Call us" or "WhatsApp to book" beats "Learn more". Use Google's call-to-action button where it fits.
Write like you'd text a regular. If you wouldn't say it at a braai, don't post it.
A simple weekly rhythm for busy owners
You need 15 minutes, once a week, same day every week. Monday morning works for a lot of owners. Open the Google Business Profile app on your phone, signed into the owner account.
In that quarter hour:
- Write one post (job, offer, hours or FAQ)
- Add one or two real photos from the last week
- Reply to any new reviews
- Glance at Insights: calls, messages, direction requests
That's enough. Consistency beats clever. A plain post every Tuesday for three months beats one fancy campaign that never happens again.
If posts keep slipping because you're busy on the tools, weekly Google Business Profile posts and profile help from our side keeps the rhythm going.
Photos that make the post work
Text alone is fine. A real photo next to it is better. Use your phone, natural light, and show the job, product, team or shopfront.
Think: bakkie outside a house in Bellville, finished kitchen in Rondebosch, team at the till. Skip blurry logos and stock handshakes. Cape Town customers know the difference. If you did the job this week, that photo belongs on this week's post.
Check Insights, then do more of what works
After a few weeks, open Insights. Look at calls, message clicks, website clicks and direction requests.
Notice which posts line up with more calls or messages. Job-in-suburb posts often work for trades; time-limited offers often work for salons, cleaners and clinics. Do more of what brings enquiries.
When calls pick up, someone still has to answer and book them. Our sister company is good at turning those calls into booked meetings if follow-up needs more structure.
Start this week
Open your Google Business Profile today, post one real update with a suburb and a Call or WhatsApp ask, and set a reminder for the same time next week.
Do that for a month and you'll have a busier-looking profile and a few more enquiries from Maps. If you'd rather we handle the weekly posts, shout and we'll take a look.
